Student, Parent and Community Involvement

The graduating class of 2017 produced 59 honor grads, 30 Presidential Scholarship Award Winners, and collectively received more than 2.9 million dollars in scholarship awards. Our students were active and involved in a variety of academic and extracurricular pursuits.

Lakes JROTC earned the highest honor possible for their battalion this year and were named Honor Unit with Distinction. They continued their long-standing tradition of serving the community. Our JROTC program had approximately 200 students involved in leadership and service throughout the year.

Lakes art students once again submitted photos to St. Clare Hospital which has become a yearly tradition. In addition, Artasia, our annual art show was held her at Lakes in May. Our National Honor Society also held a carnival to raise funds to donate to a clean water project for countries in need, NHS raised in conjunction with the carnival and other fundraisers, $800 for the cause.

The Lakes High School athletic department cleared 975 athletes on the year over the course of three seasons. We had 787 athletes compete this year in one or more of 25 sports consisting of 54 teams, (Varsity, JV and C-Team) offered at Lakes. There were 524 males who tried out for 11 sports and 451 females who tried out for 14 sports with 422 and 365 students respectively competing for Lakes.

Lakes began competing in a new League this year. This new league is called the Pierce County League and is a 3A league.

In the fall we offered 5 sports for the boys and girls. Both the boys and girls golf teams brought home league championships as did the boys cross country team. Both the boys and girls golf teams sent representatives to the state tournament this year with two boys competing and one girl. Our boys cross country team also placed at the district meet and competed in the state meet representing us well. Our girls soccer team finished 5th in the league and went to the district tournament for the first time in over ten years. The Lancer football team finished 3rd in the PCL and lost a quarter final game to Eastside Catholic in the state football tournament.

The winter season brought three offerings each for the boys and the girls. Lakes added a girls bowling team this year and they brought home a 4th place finish in League and had one young lady advance to the district tournament as an individual. Both the boys and girls Basketball teams moved on to the district tournament with the girls just missing out on a regional birth. Our boys swim and dive team had their highest finish at state in the past 8 years finishing 16th overall with one diver placing 4th. The boys and girls wrestling teams each were represented in the regional and state tournaments as well.

In the spring we offered three sports for the boys and four sports for the girls. The girls track team brought home a League championship this year and the boys 4x100 relay team won the state championship. The Girls Softball team placed 5th in league and advanced to the district tournament.

Lakes Ignite Mentors once again , served our freshmen students and helped them transition to high school. They conducted visits to our feeder middle schools and organized and ran transition activities at Lakes for our incoming freshmen. Mentors also run our summer orientation for incoming freshmen as well as supporting them throughout the school year.

School Improvement Plan

Math & Reading Goal: All students, at the end of each school year, are prepared to transition to the next grade/level and be successful therein.

Science Goal: 85% of 10th grade students will pass the Biology EOC by the spring of 2018.

Goal 4 College Readiness: All students by the end of their senior year are prepared to pursue their post-secondary goal.
