Lakes High School

Creating Promising Futures

Principal Message

PrincipalLakes Principal, Ray Kurtz

Ray Kurtz

Dear Lancer Families,

As we move deeper into fall and the weather begins to change, I want to take a moment to share some important updates and reminders to help you stay connected and informed about what’s happening at Lakes High School.

ParentSquare: Stay Connected with Lakes

Lakes High School is now using ParentSquare, a messaging platform that improves communication between our district, school, and families. This new tool allows you to stay up to date on all district and school news, announcements, and alerts—all in one convenient place.

You will still receive phone calls, emails, and texts, but with ParentSquare, you can also access district alerts and school information together through the ParentSquare app.

We encourage all families to download the app to stay connected!

Inclement Weather Procedures

As temperatures drop, please keep Lakes High School’s inclement weather procedures in mind in case of a school delay or closure.

If there is a delay or closure, you will be notified via email, text, and phone call, as well as through the ParentSquare App if you have it installed.

Local television stations may also share this information—just remember to look for Clover Park School District, not Lakewood School District.

Emergency Condition Messages:

  • Two-Hour Delay:
    • Buses begin two hours late but at regular stops.
    • No half-day kindergarten, preschool, ECEAP, or Head Start.
    • No early release or transition programs.
    • No out-of-district transportation.
  • Schools Closed:
    • All Clover Park schools closed for all students.
    • No transportation to schools outside the district.
    • All activities canceled.
    • District offices open; staff report when safely possible.

If a two-hour delay happens on a Late Start Wednesday:

There will be no one-hour late start that day. Instead, school will begin two hours later than a typical non-late start day.

Dismissal will occur at the regular time unless otherwise communicated.

Veterans Day – No School on Monday, Nov. 11

In honor of Veterans Day, Lakes High School will be closed on Monday, November 11.

We are proud to serve many military families connected to Joint Base Lewis-McChord, and we thank all our veterans for their service.

School will resume on Tuesday, November 12, and it will be a Late Start Tuesday. Classes will begin one hour later than normal.

Parent-Teacher Conferences – Early Release Days

Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place November 19–21.

This is a great opportunity to meet with your student’s teachers, discuss progress, and partner in their academic growth.

Lakes High School will operate on an early release schedule each of those days.

To make the most of your conference, consider asking questions like:

  • What are my student’s strengths and growth areas?
  • Is homework being completed on time?
  • Does my student participate in class?
  • How can I support learning at home?
  • What resources are available to help?
  • How is my student doing socially and emotionally?

Thanksgiving Break

Lakes High School will release students on the early release schedule at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 26, to begin Thanksgiving Break.

There will be no school on Thursday, November 27, and Friday, November 28.

We hope you enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends, and we look forward to welcoming students back on Monday, December 1.

In Closing

As we approach the season of gratitude, I want to thank our Lancer families for your continued support, partnership, and trust. It is a privilege to work alongside you to ensure every student at Lakes learns at high levels and feels connected to our community.

Go Lancers!

Warm regards,

Ray Kurtz
