I hope this message finds you healthy and safe.  Everyone has been working hard to be successful, students and teachers alike.  We appreciate your support and grace as we all work to stick together and make sure that all of our Lancers get what they need to learn and be safe.

Updates and Reminders:

Back to School Night, Wednesday, October 7, 5:00 pm-7:00pm

We will be holding a virtual Back to School Night on Wednesday, October 7, 2020, from 5:00pm to 8:00 pm.  The schedule has been sent out via school messenger.  Please let me know if you need me to send you a copy or print a copy here at school for  you.  We will be using Teams as our platform.   Teachers will be doing 15 minute presentations about the work and learning in their classrooms.  There will be a 5 minute “passing period” between class periods so you can navigate to the next class each time.  Your child will receive an invitation for each of their class periods like they do each day and you will go through their schedule with them and get a sense of what their day is like.   During this time, you may choose to have your camera on or not.  The microphones should be muted until such time as the teacher asks if there are any questions.   These presentations are a time to get a sense of what your child is learning.  This is not the time to ask individual questions about your daughter or son.  Please do reach out in an email and let teachers know if you would like to have individual communication and whether you would like to do that via email or Teams.  We look forward to sharing with you!  If you need a translator for this night please do reach out to me at and we will see how  we can support you. 

Learning Reminder

In order to make the most of their learning we need students to use both the synchronous and asynchronous sessions well.  Students need to attend and be engaged in the synchronous sessions. They need to participate in discussions, share their ideas, and do the work and learning.  Certainly we understand if there are exceptions and please do let us know how we can support you.   The asynchronous time should be used to check in with teachers and get help and feedback.  Teachers will also invite your daughter or son, in to sessions for help.  Please ask your child about the asynchronous time and how she or he is using it.


Immunizations Update

As a reminder, your child’s immunizations must be up to date for your student to participate in hybrid learning. Immunization requirements are available on the district website:

First Progress Report Coming your Way-October 16

We have hit Mid First Quarter, which means the first progress report is coming your way the weekend of October 16, 2020. Please do check Skyward for updates on your child’s grades and reach out to teachers if you have any questions or concerns.  It truly is important for students to stay engaged, stay on top of their work and reach out for help when they need it! Thank you for partnering with us and for letting us know how we can be of help to your child and yourself as well! Please remember that a progress report does not reflect a final grade, it is a snapshot of what the grade is at this time.  The only grade which is final is the grade on the report card at the end of the semester.


Still Need Textbooks?

We want you to have what you need, so if you still need textbooks or any other resources your teacher has told you about, please call the main office at 253-583-5550 and they can then get your textbooks together and you can come pick them up at the door.  If for any reason you can’t get to the school, please do let us know and we will problem solve with you. 


Calling All Parents

I am looking for parent volunteers to serve on my Site Council and also the Parent Connection Council.  Site Council is an oversite committee here at Lakes which reviews our School Improvement Plan, focuses on school climate and culture and approves courses.  The Parent Connection Council (PCC) is a district led council which brings parents together from different schools in the district to hear parent voice and learn about what families are experiencing.  I am looking for 2-4 parents for site council and 4 parents to represent Lakes on the PCC.  If you are interested please do email me at and let me know! If you were part of my site council last year and/or on the PCC and would like to continue, please also feel free to reach out.

As I virtually wander in to classrooms during the day, I truly enjoy the young people I get to experience.  I appreciate their grace in understanding how hard their teachers are working to teach and support them.  I love their senses of humor and their creativity.  I believe I speak for my entire staff when I say that hearing their voices, seeing their faces when we can, and even their engagement using the chat with us means the world.  As always I am humbled and proud to serve the Lancer Community.  We hope you all are well, we love you and we miss you! We know one thing for sure. We are in this together and we will get through it together as well!
