Principal Message

Lakes Principal Karen Mauer Smith

April 2, 2021

Hello Lancer Families,

I hope this message finds you all well and safe.  We are heading in to Spring and happily we are busier in building than we have been in a while.  We have gotten to enjoy athletics again to a small degree and having students back in the building has been wonderful!  Thank you to all the staff who are working to make this happen and to our students for following the healthy hybrid habits which allow us to slowly get back to doing school in person.

Spring break is upon us which means that the rest of our year will go quickly.  Please make sure to check Skyward to see how your child is doing.  If you need help accessing Skyward you can call the guidance office at 253-583-5587 for assistance.  Please know  too that we want to be of support to our Lancers and their families.  If you need support of any kind, you can reach out using the main office number at 253-583-5550 or email me at kmauersm@cloverpark.k12.wa,us.

Updates and Reminders

Finish Strong

We know this has been a long road with a lot of changes.  We want to support you to be successful. I need to make clear that attendance virtually in the mornings is mandatory for ALL students, whether they are coming  to in person classes or not.  We know that this time of year by itself makes for some tired hearts and minds, let alone trying to accomplish so much under the current conditions.    We also know that some students who have fallen behind may feel that there is nothing they can do.  There is time and we want to help!  If your child is disengaging, please let us know so we can wrap supports around them.  I can be reached at 253-583-5550 or at

Honor Roll

Congrats to our honor roll students. Each student who made the honor roll, will be receiving an individual certificate after break!  We are so proud of all of you!  Honor roll recipients have achieved a GPA for the semester in one of three categories; 3.0-3.49, 3.5-3.79, 3.8 or higher.

Spring Break

We want all of our students and families, to rest, spend time together and enjoy a little break.  If there is a need get caught up, now would be a breather where perhaps some part of each day or some part of the break, time could be used to get caught up.  We will certainly be here to help when we return as well. I do know sometimes getting caught up a little bit, can make returning less stressful.  Certainly, students and families should do what is right for them.

School Starts at 7:25  (Just a reminder)

Please remember that 1st  and 5th period on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays in the morning, begin at 7:25 am instead of 7:30 am. We have noticed this week that students are not arriving at their virtual classes until 7:30 or later. Thank you for reminding your student of the change in schedule.

Season II sports have begun!

There is still time and room on the following teams if you are interested:

Boys Soccer

Track (both girls and boys)

We would love to have more students come out and play.  To participate you would need to complete the paperwork to clear which is online and make sure you have a current physical.  You can email either Mr. Larson, our athletic director at or Mrs. Yearsley our ASB Secretary at

I hope Spring Break is restful and rejuvenating for  everyone!  When we return we will continue to support the learning and efforts of all of our Lancers.  You all, are our best partners in helping these amazing young people, thank you for that.  Working together, I am confident we can finish Lancer Strong!
