RE: Lancer Academy – SAVE THE DATES!

Dear Parents and Guardians of Incoming Lakes High School 9th graders,

The transition to high school is an exciting time in your child’s educational career. This summer, we are hoping to offer our annual Freshman-transition event, Lancer Academy but we are unsure if it will be held. There are several possibilities that could take place, depending on what phase Pierce County is in: Cancelled, Online only, or In-person.

Lancer Academy is a three-day academy filled with educational classes, physical fitness, and team building. Free lunch will be provided daily to each student. For resident students, transportation will be provided to and from Lakes High School all three days. A flyer with pick-up/drop-off locations will be provided prior to Lancer Academy starting.

For planning purposes, we would like to provide you with information about dates and times if we are able to move forward with Lancer Academy. If held, we would like to invite your student to participate in this no-cos opportunity for incoming 9th graders. This summer academy is an opportunity to get acquainted with staff and the building/campus.

Tentatively, Lancer Academy is planned from August 12th-14th, 8:00am to 2:30pm.

Friday (8/14) is a very important part of the transition from middle school to high school. During this time, incoming 9th Graders will meet and work with Ignite mentors. These groups will route through stations and gather the following information:

  • School Photo/School ID
  • Class Schedule
  • ASB Purchase ($40)
  • Information on Lakes High School
  • Yearbook Purchase ($40 w/ASB $50 w/o ASB until 10/30/20)
  • Our Lakes Way School Culture
  • Fall Sports Clearance Packet

The Ignite mentoring program runs under the direction of Becky Cushman and has had a positive impact on the Lakes school community. During the 2020-21 school year, Ignite mentors will work with 9th graders in advisory classes.

In order to plan for the academy (staff, lunch, and transportation), please fill-out the registration form at the link below as soon as possible. It will also allow time for any questions you may have to be answered and for you to indicate any special needs your child may have.

If your student is not able to attend Lancer Academy: Lakes 101 please note that 9th graders will be welcome to attend the general orientation days with upper classmen the following week. There will be further communications regarding Lancer Days (8/17 thru 8/20) later in the summer.

If there is enough interest, we would also like to offer a 1-hour Lancer Academy: Parents Guide to 9th grade year. On the form there will be a couple of questions that ask if you are interested in attending and what time of day works best for you.

If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Simons (9th Grade Administrator) or Ms. Hansen (guidance office). Both can be reached at (253) 583-5550.

Sincerely,

Tanya Simons
